Ultram dosage and administration

Ultram is intended to be taken orally. Do not chew or crush the tablet, swallow it as a whole with a full glass of water. You can take it with and without food. Try to take Ultram around the same time every day in order to maximize its effectiveness and avoid skipping doses.

Ultram is available in two forms: immediate and extended release. Immediate release Ultram is intended for acute pain condition as it provides rapid onset of effects and lasts for a shorter period of time than extended release. Extended release Ultram has a longer onset but provides pain management for a longer period of time in order to address chronic pain conditions. It is not recommended to use both these forms of Ultram in order to avoid dosage excess. Still, if you are forced to mix both immediate and extended release forms of the drug you should first calculate your daily dosage and keep the intake lower than 300 mg per day.

In order to achieve proper pain management it is highly recommended to set an individual dose for every user. That's what your doctor will do after you ask for Ultram prescription. You will start with a low dosage and gradually increase it according to the prescription label in order to reach the optimal dosage for pain relief for your condition. Your daily dosage should not exceed 300 mg. If your doctor prescribes a larger dosage make sure to ask about the reasons behind such a decision.

Older patients usually require a lower dosage of Ultram because they usually have weaker cardiac, hepatic and renal functions. Side effects are more common in this group of patients, that's why the dosage should be chosen with utter caution.
